about

In the beginning, it was the Big 3: Machito, Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez, who delighted a generation of dancers with Mambo, a music played by big bands orchestrated by creative composers and arrangers, who layered jazzy harmonies over Afro-Cuban rhythms for singers with impeccable talents. In post-WWII New York City, these orchestras spun places like The Palladium Ballroom, The Home of the Mambo, into an insatiable frenzy and defined what the Latin big band was all about. It set in motion a musical revolution in Latin music.

Today, Hector Aponte y La Orquesta Harlem Riverside, reignites that torch with a new millennium conception of what the Latin Big Band can be. Their debut album, Tres Generaciones de Nuestra Musica (Three Generations of our Music), showcases the collective talents of a triumvirate consisting of Hector Aponte (lead vocals), Doug Beavers (trombone / co-musical director), and Ray Santos (arranger / co-musical director). They revisit Palladium-era classics and introduce sizzling originals with a big band of legendary cats performing this music with flawless proficiency and nuance.

about

Hector Aponte New York, New York

”Matices de Musica" marks the second solo recording for vocalist Hector Aponte.

With this new release, produced and directed by 2019 Grammy® winning producer Doug Beavers, Aponte wanted to focus more on the many different colors of his vocal, whether it be utilized within a full salsa big band (“Espuma Blanca”) or a simmering bolero of his own writing (“Antes de Todo”). ... more
